About The Willow TreeThe Willow Tree - figurines and angelsIn the beginning...It all started in January 2000 with a handful of designs - now it is a whole collection: The Willow Tree covers every occasion and has a piece for every member of family and friends alike. When words are not enough - or escape us... It's those sentiments we find most difficult to express ourselves in any other way. How many times have you agonised on the exact words to say in that greeting card or gift tag. The Willow Tree says it for us. The inspiration for each Willow Tree piece is the sentiment it expresses - intimate and personal. Hand-carved by Artist Susan Lordi, each figures evolves as she identifies complex and recreates them in simple gestures and nuances. Symbolic - emotive - expressive Each Willow Tree angel and figurine is a pure art form expressing love between family and partner, special connection, wellness, fortitude, faith and hope. The Willow Tree - and the birds and animals introduces into certain pieces - are symbolic of particular human virtues. Hence the name. Lend your own meaning to each piece - as it lends its to yours... It is up to the giver and the receiver of each Willow Tree sculpture to determine what emotions and sentiments each conveys. It's a personal choice - and that's the beauty. Even though faceless, they are no less expressive due to their poise and pose. |
About Susan LordiGift solutions from The Willow Tree CollectionCapturing the world around us...The Willow Tree Collection is all about our relationships with each other and how we cope with or approach life's many and varied situations. Susan Lordis art captures emotion in a unique style defined by an expressive use of the human form in a way that still alows us to bring in a part of ourselves and our own experiences. The ability to make each Willow Tree piece your own... Although immensely expressive, each figure is so designed "to let the giver and receiver in". In other words there is sufficient freedom to enable you to bring your own interpretation to it. Designed to stimulate as much as to inspire, this gives each Willow Tree work a unique meaning - your meaning. The ultimate success of, and value in, each figure is where it gives meaning - whatever that may be - visually, with the absence of words. That's where Susan Lordi's design transends into art. Expression - wiithout a face... The simplicity of the whole range of Willow Tree angels and figurines has certain Amish influences. Sentiments and emotions are therefore guided by the whole piece - not by facial expression - so as to suggest, rather than to supply the full answer. "Less" means "more" in terms of the range of emotions it can engender. In her own words: "I try to keep the interpretation of Willow Tree open. I hope this makes it more personal, and allows the viewer to decide its meaning." - Susan Lordi Although now a recognised sculpture of international recognition through The Willow Tree, Susan Lordi has a Master's degree of Fine Arts in Textile Design. She lives with her family live in Kansas City, Missouri. |
